毎週社内コンペを開いて、リリースする曲を決めていたというのもファンには知られている話です。尽力して制作した曲達が常にコンペにかけられるというのは少し酷な気もしますが、そのような環境でミュージシャンたちがリリースを勝ち取るため切磋琢磨したからこそ、良質な名曲が数多く残されてきたのも納得のシステム。しかしまたそれは、お蔵入りになった曲も多数に及ぶということも容易に想像できます。
そんなMOTOWNの最盛期とも言える、60年代の「お蔵入り作品」を初7インチ化する人気シリーズの第5弾!!
DAVID RUFFINが69年に録音した当時未発表アルバム収録の『ANYTHING THAT YOU ASK FOR』、BRENDA HOLLOWAYによる64年録音のレア・ノーザン・キラー『DON'T STAY AWAY』、MARVIN GAYE の未発表メロー・ソウル『YOU'RE THE ONE』、そしてFOUR TOPSが65年に録音した『JUST YOUR LOVE』の4曲を収録。
今回ももし事情が変わってリリースされていたらヒット曲になっていたかもしれないポテンシャルを十分に感じさせられる珠玉の音源集となっています!

MOTOWN, known for its vast catalog of timeless hits, is famous for holding internal competitions every week to decide which songs would be released—a fact well-known among fans. While it may seem a bit harsh that carefully crafted songs were constantly put through such rigorous contests, this competitive environment pushed musicians to strive for excellence, leading to the creation of so many high-quality masterpieces. However, it’s easy to imagine that many great tracks were also shelved in the process.
This brings us to the fifth installment of a popular series dedicated to uncovering these "unreleased gems" from MOTOWN’s golden era in the 1960s, now available on 7-inch vinyl for the first time! This release features four remarkable tracks: “ANYTHING THAT YOU ASK FOR” by David Ruffin, recorded in 1969 for a then-unreleased album; Brenda Holloway's rare 1964 Northern Soul killer “DON’T STAY AWAY”; Marvin Gaye's previously unreleased mellow soul tune “YOU’RE THE ONE”; and the Four Tops' “JUST YOUR LOVE”, recorded in 1965.
Once again, this collection showcases songs that, had circumstances been different, might have become massive hits, clearly demonstrating their untapped potential. A true treasure trove of exceptional recordings!

This release includes four incredible cuts: the funky 1968 track “SHOW ME THE WAY” by Gladys Knight & The Pips, “THIS IS THE LOVE (I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR)” recorded in 1969 by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, the 1967 rendition of “SINCE I DON’T HAVE YOU” by The Temptations, and the 1968 duet “NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP” by Blinky & Edwin Starr.

Once again, this EP showcases the incredible depth of MOTOWN's catalog, with tracks that deliver outstanding quality and undeniable soul.
